Get started with Breakly

Install Breakly, turn on the widget in your theme, create your first quantity break offer, and check it on the product page, cart and checkout.

Breakly shows quantity break tiers on your product pages, such as "Buy 2, save 10%". When a shopper adds the items, Breakly's automatic discount gives the same price in the cart and at checkout.

This guide takes you from install to your first discounted test order.

Install Breakly#

  1. Open the Breakly listing in the Shopify App Store and select Install.
  2. Review the permissions Breakly asks for and approve them. Data and privacy explains each one.
  3. Shopify opens Breakly in your admin.

When you install, Breakly creates one automatic discount in your store, named Breakly quantity breaks. Home waits a few seconds for it before it shows its status.

Open the app#

In your Shopify admin, go to Apps and select Breakly. The app menu has these pages:

Follow the setup checklist#

Home shows a Setup section with three steps and how many are done, for example "1 of 3 done".

While Breakly checks your theme, Home shows "Checking your theme…". When all three steps are done, you can select Hide setup. If a step stops being done later, for example after you change themes, the checklist comes back.

Create your first offer#

  1. Select Create offer on Home or on the Offers page.
  2. Enter a Name. Only you see this name.
  3. Under Applies to, keep Specific products and select Choose products. Pick the products and confirm.
  4. Under Tiers, keep the default tiers or pick a template next to Start from.
  5. Select Save.

A new offer is active as soon as you save it. Breakly shows the message "Offer created — it's live on your store".

The default tiers are:

Turn on the widget in your theme#

You can show the widget in two ways. Use one of them.

Auto placement (app embed) Quantity breaks (app block)
Where it shows Product pages Any page section with a product, including featured product sections
Position Above the add to cart button or Below the price Wherever you drag the block
Settings On or off, and Position Product, Heading (optional) and Layout

If a product page has the Quantity breaks block, auto placement skips that page, so the widget never shows twice.

Option 1: Turn on auto placement#

  1. On Home, select Turn on in theme. On the Help page, the same button is Turn on auto placement.
  2. The theme editor opens on a product page with Breakly's app embed. Make sure Auto placement is on and Show the widget automatically on product pages is checked.
  3. Choose a Position: Above the add to cart button or Below the price.
  4. Select Save in the theme editor.

Option 2: Add the Quantity breaks block#

  1. On Home or on the Help page, select Add as block.
  2. The theme editor opens your product template and adds the Quantity breaks block to the product section. You find it later under Apps in the block list.
  3. Drag the block where you want the widget.
  4. Optionally, set Heading (optional) and Layout.
  5. Select Save in the theme editor.

Note: The theme editor changes your current theme. If you publish another theme later, turn on auto placement or add the block again in that theme.

Check the product page, cart and checkout#

  1. Open a product from your offer in your online store. Store pages can take a few minutes to show a change, because Shopify serves recently viewed pages from its cache.
  2. The widget shows your tiers, each with its total price and saving. Select a tier.
  3. Select your theme's add to cart button. Breakly adds the tier's quantity.
  4. Open the cart. The discount shows next to the items with the tier's checkout message, for example "Buy 2, save 10%".
  5. Go to checkout. The total matches the price the widget showed, before taxes, shipping and other discounts.

Tip: Price check shows what checkout charges for each tier of a product, in your store currency and in your markets' currencies, without placing an order. See Analytics, plans and limits.

The Breakly discount in Shopify Discounts#

Breakly keeps exactly one automatic discount, Breakly quantity breaks, in your Shopify Discounts. It applies the tiers of all your offers. You don't need to create another one.

  • If you open this discount from Shopify Discounts, Shopify sends you to Breakly's Offers page.
  • If you select Create discount in Shopify Discounts and choose Breakly, Shopify opens a new offer in Breakly.
  • If the discount is deleted or turned off while you have active offers, Home shows Discount missing or paused. Select Recreate discount or Turn discount on to fix it.
