Create and manage offers

Set quantity tiers, pick a discount type such as percent off, price per item, bundle total or free items, and write tier titles, badges and cart messages.

An offer is a set of quantity tiers for some products, such as "1 item", "Buy 2, save 10%" and "Buy 3, save 15%". You create offers on the Offers page. This page covers the tiers and texts. Choose what an offer applies to covers products, counting, countries and schedules.

How tiers work#

  • An offer has 2 to 6 tiers.
  • Each tier has a Quantity from 1 to 999. Each tier needs a different quantity.
  • At least one tier needs a discount.
  • A tier applies from its quantity up to the next tier. With tiers at 1, 2 and 3, a cart with 5 items gets the "Buy 3" tier.
  • Breakly sorts the tiers by quantity when you save.
Items in the cart Tiers 1 · 2 (10% off) · 3 (15% off)
1 Regular price
2 10% off each
3 15% off each
5 15% off each

To add a tier, select Add tier. The new tier gets the next quantity and 20% off, which you can change. To remove a tier, select its delete icon. You can't remove a tier when only two are left.

Start from a template#

Next to Start from, pick a template to replace the tiers. Each template also selects its second tier by default.

Template Tiers
1 · 2 · 3 (10% / 15%) 1 item, Buy 2 at 10% off ("Most popular"), Buy 3 at 15% off
1 · 2 · 4 (10% / 20%) 1 item, Buy 2 at 10% off ("Most popular"), Buy 4 at 20% off ("Best value")
Buy 2, save 15% 1 item, Buy 2 at 15% off ("Most popular")
Bulk: 5 · 10 · 25 1 item, 5 at 5% off, 10 at 10% off ("Most popular"), 25 at 15% off ("Best value")
Buy 1, get 1 free 1 item, 2 items with 1 free ("Most popular")
Buy 2, get 1 free 1 item, 3 items with 1 free ("Most popular")
Single · Duo · Trio 1 item, 2 at 10% off ("Most popular"), 3 at 20% off ("Best value"), with Single, Duo, Trio titles

Discount types#

Pick the type in each tier's Discount field.

Discount Value field What the shopper pays
No discount Price shows "Regular price" The regular price. Use it for a "1 item" tier next to the deals.
% off each Percent Each item's price minus the percentage, rounded to the cent.
Amount off each Amount off Each item's price minus the amount. An item never goes below zero.
Fixed price each Price each This price for each item. If an item already costs less, it keeps its price.
Buy X, get Y free Free items The cheapest items are free, for every full tier quantity.
Fixed total for the tier Total for the tier quantity One total for the tier quantity, such as 3 for $48.

Percentages can have up to two decimals. Amounts and totals are in your store currency. In other currencies, Shopify's exchange rate converts them at checkout. See Other currencies and markets.

Buy X, get Y free#

The tier's Quantity is the number of items in the deal, paid and free together. For "Buy 2, get 1 free", set Quantity to 3 and Free items to 1.

  • Free items must be a whole number from 1 to the quantity minus 1, so at least one item is paid.
  • The quantity must be 2 or more.
  • The shopper gets the free items for every full tier quantity. On a "Buy 2, get 1 free" tier, 6 items give 2 free items and 7 items also give 2.
  • The cheapest items are the free ones. When items cost the same, the ones added to the cart first go free first.

Fixed total for the tier#

The total is the price of exactly the tier quantity. Other quantities on the same tier pay the same price per item. With "3 for $48", 3 items cost $48 and 4 items cost $64.

If the total is higher than the regular price, the shopper pays the regular price. In currencies without decimals, such as JPY, totals are rounded to whole units.

Tier texts#

Each tier has three texts. They show on the widget.

Field Limit When it's empty
Title 60 characters The widget shows a default title in the shopper's language.
Subtitle 60 characters No subtitle. The gray text in the field is an example only.
Badge 24 characters No badge.

Placeholders#

  • Write {save} in a Subtitle to show the tier's saving. The widget replaces it with the same label as the savings chip, such as "Save 10%" or "Save $4.00", in the shopper's language. For example, "{save} with this pack" shows "Save 10% with this pack".
  • Write {q} in a Title to show the tier quantity, for example "Pack of {q}".
  • Badges don't use placeholders.

Note: The saving in a subtitle is calculated when the page loads, for the variant the page shows first. It doesn't change when the shopper picks another variant. If you sell in several currencies, use {save} with % off each and Buy X, get Y free tiers: for amount, price and total tiers in other currencies, the subtitle can't show the converted saving.

Default tier titles#

Default tier titles sets the titles of tiers you leave without a title. They show in each shopper's language.

Option Quantity 1 Quantity 2 Quantity 3 Quantity 4 and up
Buy 2, Buy 3… 1 item Buy 2 Buy 3 Buy 4
Single, Duo, Trio, Pack of 4… Single Duo Trio Pack of 4

A Buy X, get Y free tier without a title is always named like "Buy 2, get 1 free".

Badges#

Badges such as "Most popular" or "Best value" sit on the tier's card. You choose their look in Design with Badge style. See Design the widget.

Selected by default#

Selected by default is the tier the widget selects when the page loads. The list shows each tier as "1 item" or "Buy" and its quantity. The theme's quantity starts at that tier's quantity.

If you change the tiers so the selected quantity no longer exists, the widget selects the first tier.

Widget settings for this offer#

The Widget section changes how this offer's widget looks. Everything else comes from Design.

Setting Options
Heading Up to 60 characters. Leave it empty to show "Buy more, save more" in each shopper's language.
Layout Use design settings, Cards, Columns, Compact, List, Table or Grid
Show savings as Use design settings, Percentage or Amount

A heading or layout set in the Quantity breaks block in your theme editor replaces these. See Product page behavior.

Texts and translations#

The Texts and translations section holds the checkout messages and your own widget texts per language. Pick a language in Language: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Polish or Japanese. Languages you changed show "· edited".

Shoppers see the texts of their storefront language. Texts for a language, such as Spanish, also apply to regional versions of it, such as Spanish (Mexico).

Checkout message#

The checkout message shows next to the discount in the cart and at checkout. Each tier with a discount has one field, up to 60 characters. Leave a field empty to use the message shown in gray.

English messages you write also show in languages without their own message.

The default English messages are:

Discount Default message Example
% off each Buy {q}, save {v}% Buy 2, save 10%
Amount off each Buy {q}, save on each Buy 2, save on each
Fixed price each Buy {q}, bulk price Buy 5, bulk price
Buy X, get Y free Buy {p}, get {v} free Buy 2, get 1 free
Fixed total for the tier Buy {q}, bundle price Buy 3, bundle price

In the default messages, {q} is the tier quantity, {v} is the percentage or the number of free items, and {p} is the number of paid items. Breakly fills them in for you. The default messages are translated into all 11 languages.

Note: The message names the tier, not the cart quantity. Five items on a "Buy 3" tier show "Buy 3, save 15%".

Note: With price rounding on, the real saving can be a little higher than the percentage in the message, because rounding always goes down.

All offers share one space for checkout messages. If your messages don't fit, Breakly shows "Your checkout messages are too long in total across your offers. Shorten some or remove a language."

Widget translations#

For each language you can write a Heading and each tier's Title, Subtitle and Badge. Empty fields use the texts from Tiers and Widget above, or Breakly's own translation when those are empty too.

Tip: A title you write in Tiers, such as "Starter pack", shows in every language that has no translation of its own. Leave titles empty if you want Breakly's translated default titles.

Price endings and rounding#

Round discounted prices, in the Advanced section, sets how discounted prices end.

Option A discounted price of 17.64
Don't round stays 17.64
Down to .99 (18.00 → 17.99) becomes 16.99
Down to .95 (18.00 → 17.95) becomes 16.95
Down to .90 (18.00 → 17.90) becomes 16.90
Down to a whole amount (18.50 → 18.00) becomes 17.00

How rounding works:

  • It always rounds down, so a price never goes up.
  • It applies only to tiers with a discount. A No discount tier keeps the regular price.
  • It applies to % off each, Amount off each and Fixed price each. Free items and fixed totals are never rounded.
  • Prices under 1.00 are not rounded.
  • Endings like .99 apply in currencies with cents. Whole amounts work in every currency.

Preview#

The Preview next to the editor shows the widget as you edit. It uses the first product of the offer, the first product of its first collection, or a product from your store. When your store has no product to show, it uses a "Sample product".

The preview prices use the same calculation as checkout, including rounding. It shows English default texts and a neutral accent color. On your store, the widget uses your theme's font and, unless you pick an accent, your theme's button color.

Save, pause, duplicate and delete#

Save#

When you change an offer, the save bar appears. Select Save, or Discard to undo your changes. For a new offer, Cancel leaves without saving. After a save, Breakly shows "Offer saved".

If something needs fixing, a banner named Fix these to save the offer lists the problems.

Checkout uses your saved changes right away. Store pages can take a few minutes to show them.

Pause and activate#

  • In the offer, turn off Active. Paused offers stay saved but are not shown or applied.
  • On the Offers page, select Pause or Activate on the offer's row.

Activating an offer counts as a new save for priority: when two offers include the same product, the one saved or activated most recently wins. See When several offers could apply.

Duplicate#

On the Offers page, select the duplicate icon on the offer's row. Breakly creates a paused copy named "(copy)" after the original, with the same products, tiers, texts and schedule.

Delete#

  1. Open the offer.
  2. Select Delete offer.
  3. Select Delete to confirm.

The discount stops applying right away and the widget disappears from the offer's products. This can't be undone. Counted orders of a deleted offer stay in Analytics as "Deleted offer".

The Offers page#

The Offers page lists every offer with these columns: Offer, Status, Applies to, Tiers, Orders, Discounts given and Actions. Orders and Discounts given count all the orders where Breakly discounted the offer.

Status Meaning
Active The offer is running with no end date.
Active until a date The offer runs until that date and time.
Starts a date The offer is scheduled and hasn't started.
Ended The offer's end date passed. Change the dates to run it again.
Paused The offer is turned off.

If a row shows Some products could not be updated, Breakly couldn't write the offer to some products. Save the offer again to retry.
