Choose what an offer applies to
Target products, collections or the whole store, count items per product, per variant or mix and match, exclude items, limit countries and schedule offers.
The Applies to section of an offer sets which products get its tiers, how Breakly counts the items, and which shoppers get the discount. The Offer section holds the schedule.
What an offer can apply to#
Pick one option under Applies to.
| Option | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Specific products | The products you pick with Choose products, with all their variants. |
| Products in collections | Every product in the collections you pick with Choose collections. |
| All products | Every product in your store, except the ones you exclude. |
- The product list doesn't show draft or archived products.
- An offer covers whole products. You can't pick single variants.
- The editor lists the first 8 products or collections you picked, then "and" the number of others.
- Changing the option clears the products, collections and exclusions you picked.
- Gift cards are never discounted.
Breakly follows changes in your catalog. When you edit a product or a collection that an active offer uses, Breakly updates the offer's products.
All products#
A store-wide offer covers every product that has no offer of its own. Products in another active offer use that offer instead. The Offers page shows how many products "use their own offer instead".
To leave products out, select Exclude products and pick up to 500 products. Excluded products show no widget and get no discount from this offer. Select Clear to remove all exclusions. For a larger set of products, use a collection offer instead.
Only one store-wide offer can run at a time. If two active store-wide offers would run at the same moment, Breakly shows "… already applies to all products at the same time. Pause it, or schedule the two offers so they don't overlap." You can have several store-wide offers when their schedules don't overlap.
How items are counted#
Count quantities sets which items count together toward a tier.
| Option | How it counts | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Per product (variants combined) | Variants of the same product count together. | 2 blue + 1 red shirt = 3. |
| Per variant (each size or color on its own) | Each variant counts on its own. Shoppers pick one variant per tier. | 2 blue + 1 red shirt = 2 and 1. |
| Mix & match across all products in this offer | Any products from this offer count together. | "Buy 3" counts any 3 products, such as 2 shirts + 1 cap. |
New offers count Per product (variants combined).
Breakly counts what is in the cart, however the items got there. Tiers also apply when shoppers change quantities in the cart or cart drawer, or use an express checkout button.
Per variant#
The widget shows the hint "Quantities count per selected option" on products with variants. Shoppers can't pick a different variant for each item, because mixing variants would split the count.
Mix & match#
The widget shows the hint "Mix and match any items from this offer". On a store-wide offer, every product the offer covers counts together.
- Products that use another offer don't count toward this offer.
- With Buy X, get Y free, the cheapest items across all the products are the free ones.
- With Fixed total for the tier, the total covers the mixed items together.
Exclusions#
The Advanced section has two exclusions. Both are on for new offers.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Exclude subscriptions | Subscription items don't count and aren't discounted. |
| Exclude B2B customers | Buyers who buy for a company get no discount from this offer. Recommended when you use B2B price lists with their own quantity rules. |
Note: The widget still shows to B2B buyers and on products sold as subscriptions. Checkout applies the exclusion: excluded items keep their regular price.
For store-wide offers, see All products for excluding products.
Countries and markets#
Check Only for shoppers in some countries to limit the offer to some countries.
- Check Only for shoppers in some countries.
- Search for and check the countries. The list shows the countries your store ships to.
- Save the offer.
- You can choose up to 60 countries. With none selected, the offer runs everywhere.
- Breakly uses the country the shopper browses and checks out in, from your Markets.
- In other countries, the widget is hidden and the discount doesn't apply.
- Unchecking the box clears the countries.
Note: A product carries one offer at a time. If a country-limited offer wins a product over another offer, shoppers outside those countries get no discount on that product. Breakly explains this in a banner on both offers. See When several offers could apply.
Scheduling#
Check Schedule a start and end in the Offer section to run an offer between two dates.
- Check Schedule a start and end.
- Pick the Start date and Start time.
- Pick the End date and End time.
- Save the offer.
- Times are in your store's time zone, which the checkbox shows, for example "(America/New_York)".
- Times come in 30-minute steps, plus 23:59. A new start date starts at 00:00 and a new end date at 23:59.
- Leave a date empty to start now or to run until you pause the offer.
- The end must be after the start.
- Unchecking the box removes the schedule.
Below the fields, Breakly sums up the schedule:
| State | Summary |
|---|---|
| Before the start | "Starts" and the date. "Until then the widget is hidden and the discount doesn't apply." |
| Running | "Running now, until" and the date, or "Running now, with no end date." |
| After the end | "Ended" and the date. "The widget is hidden and the discount doesn't apply." |
A scheduled offer still needs Active turned on. A paused offer doesn't run, whatever its schedule. After the end, the offer stays in your list with the status Ended. To run it again, change its dates.
Storefront page-cache delay#
Checkout follows saved changes and schedule times to the minute. Your store's pages can take a few minutes to show or hide the widget, because Shopify serves recently viewed pages from its cache.
- After you save or pause an offer, some shoppers can see the old widget for a few minutes. Checkout already uses the new settings.
- When a scheduled offer ends, the widget hides itself on a cached page as soon as the end time passes.
- When a scheduled offer starts, the widget appears once the page cache refreshes.
When several offers could apply#
A product carries one offer at a time. When several active offers include the same product, Breakly picks one with these rules:
- An offer for Specific products beats an offer for Products in collections.
- Both beat an All products offer. The store-wide offer only covers products no other offer claims.
- Between two offers of the same kind, the one saved or activated most recently wins.
- A scheduled offer claims its products only during its schedule. Outside it, the next offer in line applies.
Breakly explains every overlap in the offer editor and on the Offers page. The offer that wins shows an information banner. The offer that loses shows a warning, for example: "3 products use “Summer socks” instead while both run: it was saved more recently. Save this offer again to make it win."
The banners also warn you when:
- The winning offer is limited to some countries, so buyers elsewhere get no discount on those products.
- The winning offer has a schedule, so the other offer applies outside it.
Tip: To make an offer win, save it again or activate it. To give a few products a different deal inside a collection or store-wide offer, create an offer for those Specific products.
