Breakly Upsell privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026
Breakly Upsell ("Breakly Upsell", "we", "us") is a Shopify app that shows shoppers a one-click offer after checkout, and an offer on the Thank you page for orders that skip that step. This policy explains what data the app handles. It applies to merchants who install Breakly Upsell and to the shoppers of their stores. Merchants also agree to our terms of service, which say how Breakly Upsell processes store data on their behalf.
Data the app collects from your store#
When you install Breakly Upsell, Shopify gives it access to your store's data through the permissions you approve: read products and write discounts, and, only if you turn on order tags, edit orders. Breakly Upsell stores:
- Store details: your myshopify domain, currency, plan, and install and uninstall dates.
- Offer settings: your offers (when they show, the products by ID, discounts and texts), the design, the smart default, the order tag setting, and the discount code each Thank you page offer uses.
- Offer results per checkout: for each checkout that got an offer, the checkout's reference, the offer and the products it showed, the test version, the order total before the offer, and what the shopper did: saw it, declined it, or accepted it with the variant, quantity and amount added. For the Thank you page offer, whether the shopper opened the new-order link.
- Checkout outcomes: for each checkout that asked for an offer, the checkout's reference, the offer it concerns and what each page did: showed the offer and what the shopper did with it, or why no offer showed, such as no offer matching the order or the product being sold out. The app's Checkouts page shows them to you.
- Order links: the ID of the order a checkout became, which the Thank you page sends. With order tags on, also the order's name (such as #1001) and when the order was tagged.
- Customer key: a keyed hash of the shopper's customer ID, so an offer can be shown only once per customer. The customer ID itself isn't stored.
- Access tokens: the token Shopify issues so Breakly Upsell can call its Admin API for your store.
Breakly Upsell creates one discount code in your store for each Thank you page offer with a discount, limited to the offer's product. With order tags on, it adds the tags breakly-upsell and, if you choose, one naming the offer to the orders that accepted an upsell.
Shopper data#
Breakly Upsell doesn't store shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses.
- After checkout: Shopify sends the post-purchase page a signed summary of the order, with the items, totals, shipping country and customer ID. Breakly Upsell uses it to choose an offer and keeps only the keyed hash of the customer ID.
- On the Thank you page: the block sends Breakly Upsell's servers the checkout's reference, currency and country, the items and their amounts, and the ID of the order. When the shopper adds the offered product to a new order, the block opens a new checkout with the shopper's email address and shipping name and address already filled in, so they don't have to type them again. It reads these details in the shopper's browser and puts them only in the link to your store's checkout. They are never sent to Breakly Upsell's servers, and Breakly Upsell doesn't log or store them. Like any link the shopper opens, it stays in their browser's history.
The blocks set no cookies and use no tracking.
How we use the data#
We use store data only to run Breakly Upsell for you: to choose and show offers, to add the upsells shoppers accept to their orders, to show you results and count your plan's usage, to tag orders when you turn tags on, and to give you support. We don't sell data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with#
- Shopify, which hosts your store, charges the upsells shoppers accept and applies the discount codes.
- Our hosting provider, which runs Breakly Upsell's servers and database on our behalf.
We share data with others only if the law requires it.
How long we keep it#
Breakly Upsell keeps your data while the app is installed, with one limit: 180 days after the checkout, customer keys and order links are cleared and checkout outcomes are deleted. The offer results stay, without them. When you uninstall, Breakly Upsell deletes your access tokens right away, and its discount codes expire on their own. Shopify then sends a store erasure request about 48 hours later, and Breakly Upsell deletes everything it holds for your store. Encrypted backups of the database are kept for 14 days, so deleted data leaves them within 14 days.
Your rights and privacy requests#
Shopify passes shoppers' privacy requests to Breakly Upsell. For a data request, Breakly Upsell reports the offers linked to the customer key or to the customer's orders: offer, date, outcome and order. For an erasure request, it clears the customer key and the links to the customer's orders; the anonymous counts stay in your results. For a store erasure request, it deletes all of the store's data.
As a merchant you can ask us at any time for a copy of your store's data or for it to be deleted. Write to the support address below.

If this policy changes, we update the date below and, for changes that affect how we use your data, tell merchants in the app.
