Breakly Cart privacy policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

Breakly Cart ("Breakly Cart", "we", "us") is a Shopify app that adds a cart drawer with a rewards bar, free gifts, free shipping and order discounts to Shopify stores. This policy explains what data the app handles. It applies to merchants who install Breakly Cart and to the shoppers of their stores. Merchants also agree to our terms of service, which say how Breakly Cart processes store data on their behalf.

Data the app collects from your store#

When you install Breakly Cart, Shopify gives it access to your store's data through the permissions you approve: read products and write discounts, and read orders once Breakly Cart counts rewarded orders. Breakly Cart stores:

  • Store details: your myshopify domain, currency, plan, install and uninstall dates, and the IDs of the automatic discounts it creates.
  • Cart settings: everything you set in the app, including rewards and their minimum spends, the gift and add-on products, recommendations, texts, design, custom CSS and HTML blocks.
  • Counted orders: for each order that got a Breakly Cart reward or included a product added from the drawer's recommendations, the order ID and number, date, currency, total, and the amounts of the gift, free shipping, discount, offers and recommended products.
  • Monthly totals: the number of all orders in a month and their total sales, to compare orders with and without rewards.
  • Drawer counts and themes: the daily counts described below and, for each theme the drawer ran on in the last 90 days, its ID, role and when it last ran.
  • Webhook IDs: the IDs of Shopify's notifications, so a notification Shopify sends twice is counted once.
  • Access tokens: the token Shopify issues so Breakly Cart can call its Admin API for your store.

Breakly Cart writes its settings to your store as an app metafield, which the cart drawer reads, and creates up to three automatic discounts in your store that apply the rewards at checkout: one for free gifts and offers, one for order discounts and one for free shipping.

Shopper data#

Breakly Cart doesn't store shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses. When it reads an order it reads the order number, date, totals, discounts and line items, never the customer fields.

Gift rules and offers can be limited to customers with certain tags. For those rewards, Breakly Cart reads whether the logged-in customer has the tags you chose: your store's theme gives the cart drawer, in the shopper's browser, only which of those tags the customer has, and at checkout Shopify tells Breakly Cart's discount function yes or no for each of them. Customer tags are used only to decide the reward; they are never sent to Breakly Cart's servers or stored.

The cart drawer runs in shoppers' browsers and talks to your store's Shopify cart and to Shopify's Storefront API (for the collections, options, compare-at prices and subscription plans of products in the cart, and the products of your upsell offers). Through your store's app proxy it sends Breakly Cart the theme it runs on, with the version of the settings it read, and anonymous counts of what shoppers do in the drawer (opens, checkouts, offer and recommendation views and adds, gifts added, codes applied), counted per day. These carry no shopper, cart or customer data, and the drawer sets no cookies. It sends nothing at all, neither counts nor the theme, unless Shopify's customer privacy API says the shopper allows analytics: it counts nothing for shoppers who decline analytics in your store's cookie banner, or before they choose when your store asks first. It keeps a few details in the browser's session storage until the tab is closed, such as a free gift the shopper removed, so it isn't added again, and the recommendations it already loaded. An order note a shopper types is saved to your store's cart by Shopify and shows on the order; Breakly Cart doesn't keep it.

How we use the data#

We use store data only to run Breakly Cart for you: to show the drawer and apply your rewards, to count rewarded orders for your stats and your plan, and to give you support. We don't sell data, and we don't use it for advertising.

Who we share it with#

  • Shopify, which hosts your store and applies Breakly Cart's discount at checkout.
  • Our hosting provider, which runs Breakly Cart's servers and database on our behalf.

We share data with others only if the law requires it.

How long we keep it#

Breakly Cart keeps your data while the app is installed, with these limits: it deletes counted orders and daily drawer counts 13 full months after their month, themes the drawer hasn't run on for 90 days, and webhook IDs after 30 days. Monthly totals stay. When you uninstall, it deletes your access tokens right away. Shopify then sends a store erasure request about 48 hours later, and Breakly Cart deletes everything it holds for your store. Encrypted backups of the database are kept for 14 days, so deleted data leaves them within 14 days.

Your rights and privacy requests#

Shopify passes shoppers' privacy requests to Breakly Cart. For a data request, Breakly Cart reports how many counted orders it holds for the customer. For an erasure request, it deletes those counted orders. For a store erasure request, it deletes all of the store's data.

As a merchant you can ask us at any time for a copy of your store's data or for it to be deleted. Write to the support address below.

This website#

This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address to Google when a page loads.

Changes and contact#

If this policy changes, we update the date below and, for changes that affect how we use your data, tell merchants in the app.
